Welcome to Year 1

Welcome back for our final term this year.

Teachers in Year 1

Mrs. Pryce teaches Year 1 throughout the week. Miss. Bruty supports Mrs. Pryce in class throughout the week. Mrs. Madigan teaches Year 1 on Thursday.

Reading in Year 1

The children will bring their reading books home daily. Please support them at home with their reading and record the pages they have read. Reading books will be changed on Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure your child has their reading book in school on these days.  The children will read in class in guided group sessions and supported to read 1:1 by teaching assistants and the class teacher.

Spellings will be tested daily through the Read, Write, Inc phonics scheme. Phonic knowledge will be assessed half termly and children will be assigned a teaching group.

Rewards

Each week two children will be chosen for special work. A star of the week will be chosen for general improvement or demonstrating positive qualities towards their peers. Their name will be entered into the good work book. This will be celebrated with the whole school on Friday afternoon at 2:40pm. Parents and carers will be invited to attend by text.

General Reminders and the Weekly Routine

P.E is on Wednesday and Thursday. Your child will need a school P.E kit to take part in the lesson. They should remove jewelry before coming to school on that day. Long hair must be tied back. Please ensure P.E kit is labelled in a named bag. They will need appropriate kit as specified on class dojo to take part in Forest school each week.

Homework

It is important that your child makes good study habits so as well as regular reading, homework will be posted on Class Dojo each week on Friday and is to be completed by Wednesday. The homework tasks are in Maths, English or Topic. There will be a list of spellings to learn each week. They will support the learning that has taken place in class. Some tasks may be taken online others will be activities which you can evidence by adding to your child’s portfolio on Class Dojo.
