Mrs Porter and Mrs Almond are the Year 5 Class Teachers. Mrs Porter will teach the children Monday-Wednesday and Mrs Almond will teach them on a Thursday and Friday. Mrs Forsyth will teach the class on a Tuesday afternoon. The children will be supported during the week by our wonderful teaching assistant Mrs McArtney.
I expect the children to have their school reading book in school every day for independent reading. Their book and reading record will be sent home each night so that they can read at home. At this stage of Year 5, children may read their school reading books independently. I also ask you to encourage your child to read as often as possible - multiple times per week. Once they tell you that they have read, please sign their reading records. It is also important to talk to them about their book. Talking and questioning your child about what they have read helps develop comprehension skills, particularly inference, so the children gain a greater depth and understanding. There are questions and prompts in the front of your child’s reading book which will be a useful starting point.
Reading Books can be changed in school throughout the week.
Every Friday afternoon, we will have our usual weekly celebration assembly at 2.30pm, where we will recognise and celebrate children’s achievements in and out of class. In addition to star of the week and good work. We also recognise good behaviour and hard work through our class dojo rewards and the school merit system.
PE this half term is on a Wednesday. Please ensure that PE kits are in school on these days.
Forest School this half term is on a Thursday afternoon, please ensure the children have appropriate kit.

The children will receive weekly homework, this will be posted on Class Dojo. Children can ask for help in school independently or you can send me a message on Class Dojo on their behalf.
Now that the children are in upper juniors, they are beginning to take on more responsibilities around school. Each child in Year 5 will have the opportunity to be a Sports Leader or a Library Monitor.
