Welcome to year 4. We really hope that your child enjoys being in this year. As this is the second year of key stage 2 the level of work will steadily increase. Each half term we will upload a curriculum letter which outlines each subject in more detail and a cirriculum jigsaw. We hope you find these informative to help support your child with their learning.
There are two teachers in year 4. Miss Walmsley and Mrs Quinton. Miss Walmsley will teach the first half of the week, Monday to Wednesday morning. Mrs Madigan will cover the PPA on a Wednesday morning. On a Wednesday afternoon Mrs Braddock will take the children swimming to Penwortham leisure centre. Mrs Quinton will teach the latter part of the week,Thursday through to Friday. Mrs Braddock is the teaching assistant supporting us in Year 4 this year.
Children in year 4 are still encouraged to read regularly at home. More confident readers should be reading daily with adult support to ask questions about what they have read. Less confident readers should still be reading aloud daily to an adult. It is really helpful for the children to discuss what they are reading, to aid understanding and comprehension. In addition, children should become familiar with using a dictionary to investigate the meaning of tricky or unfamiliar words. Children are able to change books everyday. It is really helpful if you could sign your child’s reading record every time they read and especially when their book is completed. It is also helpful to know what other reading material the children enjoy. Therefore, other books, magazines and comics can also be added to the diary.
Each Friday one child will be chosen to be star of the week. Two children will be invited to share their work during the celebration assembly.
Children will also participate in two P.E. lessons per week. One of these lessons will be swimming. The other lesson will be games, dance, gymnastics or Forest School. P.E. kits will be sent home every half term to be washed. Therefore please ensure that P.E kits are in school at the beginning of each half term. On P.E. days please ensure that children don’t wear earrings and that long hair is tied up.
English and maths homework will be provided. This will generally be given on a Friday to be completed by the following Wednesday. Some of the English and maths homework will be set using Purple Mash. Usernames and passwords will be sent home. If you encounter any problems logging on to either website do not hesitate to let us know. You can communicate with us via the school office, the Class Dojo.
If you have any other queries please do not hesitate to get in contact with us.
